Hopkins County was named after Colonel Richard Henderson, one of the original founders of Kentucky. Hopkins County was created from a portion of Henderson County in 1806. It became the 49th county in the young state. Webster was created out of the Hopkins County territory in 1857. The courthouse records of Hopkins County where destroyed when the courthouse caught on fire in 1864.
