County Parks
offer abundant outdoor recreation opportunities such as fishing, hunting, boating
and golfing. Year round supervised recreational programs for all ages are provided
by Madisonville’s 480 acres of park land. Madisonville’s 185-acre
Municipal Park includes a nine-hole golf course, Olympic size pool, and picnic
areas. Two local country clubs sport 18 hole golf courses and the Municipal Park
includes a nine-hole golf course. Supervised baseball leagues, football and basketball
teams, and tennis and golf clinics are also sponsored by the city and local civic
groups. The YMCA complex, a movie theater, roller-skating rink, and bowling alley
are just a few of the indoor recreational opportunities
Lake Malone State Park is located in Muhlenberg county. The
lake is enclosed by dramatic 50-foot sandstone bluffs rising above the water’s
edge and surrounded by hardwood forests. The park has a campground, marina,
beach and hiking trail. Located near the lake is the easy-rated hiking Laurel
Trail. This trail provides picturesque views of many rock walls, once used as
shelters by Native Americans. Mountain laurel, holly, dogwood and wildflowers
provide a rich tapestry of native flora. Lake Malone State Park also offers
a sand beach with a lifeguard on duty. A bathhouse with showers rest rooms,
and a vending area is available.
