The Hopkins County Sheriff is responsible for collecting property taxes, providing law enforcement and performing services for the county fiscal court and courts of justice. The Sheriff's office is funded through statutory commissions and fees collected in conjunction with these duties. The Hopkins County Sheriff offers a variety of programs including the D.A.R.E program. The D.A.R.E program promotes drug awareness and drug prevention among local youth.

The Hopkins County Central Dispatch is located in the Madisonville Police Department building, and is staffed by at least two operators at all times. Police officers are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Hopkins County Police department works in conjunction with the officers from the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force, Madisonville Police Department, Kentucky State Police, Hopkins County Sheriff's Office, Earlington Police Department, Mortons Gap Police Department, Nortonville Police Department and Dawson Springs Police Departments, in the arrest of large parties.
